Tie Breakers
Our tiebreaker system is used to break the ties created in events when players have the same number of event points.
We utilize three tie breakers to ensure the players involved are ranked according to the difficulty of their opponents. A player who has competed against higher ranking players will score better in the tiebreakers than a player with the same record who has competed against lower ranked players.
Our first tiebreak is called Opponent Match Win Percentage (OMW%).
This is the average win percentage of each opponent a player has faced during an event. The system will keep track of each opponent a player has been paired against and will sum up their match win percentage and divide that number by the number of opponents to determine the opponent match win percentage for a player.
A player who played against opponents who have poor records will have a lower OMW% than a player who faced off against players that finished with higher records.
Two things we use when calculating OMW% are:
1. Opponents cannot have a match win percentage lower than 33%. If they do, the system rounds it up to 33%. This helps decrease the negative impact of playing against players with a poor record.
2. Bye rounds don't count when determining OMW%.
Our second tie breaker is called Match Sector Capture Percentage (MSC%)
This is calculated by counting all the sectors you have taken in the event and dividing it by the total number of sectors that moved during your pairings. Sectors moved is calculated by adding together the number of sectors you have taken and the number of sectors you have lost.
Our third tie breaker is called Opponent Match Sector Capture Percentage (OMSC%)
This is calculated by counting all the sectors your opponents have taken from you in the event and dividing it by the total number of sectors that moved during your pairings. Sectors moved is calculated by adding together the number of sectors a player has taken and the number of sectors they have lost.
