Swiss Format
We use the swiss format for our events.
A Swiss event is a non-eliminating tournament format that features a fixed number of rounds of competition, but considerably fewer than for a round-robin tournament; thus each player does not play all the other players.
Players meet one-on-one in each round and are paired using a set of rules designed to ensure that each player plays opponents with a similar running score, but does not play the same opponent more than once.
The winner is the player with the highest aggregate points earned in all rounds. With an even number of participants, all competitors play in each round. With an odd number of players in an event, one of the lower ranked players is awarded an automatic win, called a Bye. Learn More
The Swiss system is used for competitions in which there are too many entrants for a full round-robin (all-play-all) to be feasible, and eliminating any competitors before the end of the event is undesirable.
In the first round of an event, competitors are paired randomly. During the remaining rounds, players are paired based on approximately how they have performed so far in the event.
The Swiss system seeks to provide a clear winner with a large number of competitors and a relatively small number of rounds of competition, without a single bad result terminating participation.
As a disclaimer, the system will try very hard to make sure players are not paired up with past opponents in the same event, we can not guarantee that this will not occur. To most people, it probably does not matter who they compete against, but to a few it may, so we wanted everyone to be on the same page and know that our pairing algorithm is not perfect and players may get paired up with past opponents in the same event and for this we want to apologize for this behavior.
